Poor EGM started on a downward spiral ever since Steve Harris left. It was an awesome magazine back when he was around because that was his baby.

EGM definitely was.

As for 1up they have all been the top of my list for news, reviews and everything else. Now i not sure where i'll go other than Kotaku.

I actually had a pleasant experience at Gamestop the other day. I couldn't find L4D in any of the 3 Walmarts near my area or the few Re-play games, so I had to go to Gamestop. Not only did they have it, they had it new(not "new" with missing plastic), they had it for the normal price instead of the usual five dollar mark up. Also they didn't try to get me to buy the rest of the store either.

Never bothered getting EGM and I couldn't careless about 1up. Hope it's the start of a trend. For some reason I can't wait to see Gamespot go the same route but that's just wishful thinking sadly enough.

Woah... just when the site had had a slick revamp and was starting to get faster to load. The 1up show was about the only thing I went to the site for tbh.

I did keep a blog on there once (which wasn't exactly special, just a place to rant) but that hasn't been touched for a while.

Wow, it's worse that i thought. That essentially kills the site as far as most people will be concerned because the only think 1up had over everybody (apart from IGN i guess) was it's personality and custom video content.

Looks like when Ziff CEO said "Many of our employees will travel with this business and become part of the UGO team", he actually meant "we're taking the interns and tea lady and that's about it".
According to twitter posts, GAF posts and phonecalls to MTV, around 30 staffers were let go today, including Skip Pfister, Ryan O'Donnell, Philip Kollar, Jay Fresh, Cesar Quintero, Nick Suttner, Anthony Gallegos, Matt Chandronait, Shane Bettenhausen and former EIC James Mielke.
Also cut were most of the Gamevideos.com team, as well as production of the 1UP Show.
Leaving, what, Sam Kennedy and Garnett Lee? That's a day of long knives if ever we've seen one.

I don't think the site will be closing down. Crecente is under the impression that some staff were sacked after the aquisition went through and that major site defining features like the 1up Show and podcasts will be affected.

EGM has been axed, but it wouldn't surprise me if returned in a digital format. The publication was trash thoug so it's not a big loss.

I've never been keen on 1up. The site takes ages to load and the staff are dicks, ...but i really liked the format. The 1up shows were a great idea.
